A Perfect Summer Day at Priest Point Park

There are families who are spread across the country and get few opportunities to spend time together- all together. This was one of those great opportunities for this family- and for me to photograph this beautiful family on a delightful sunny morning at Priest Point Park in Olympia. They traveled from Georgia, Utah, California (and one neighborhood, off of Boulevard). They laughed, played, climbed, posed and jumped – lovely to watch a family so appreciative and fond of each other. Many thanks to them for allowing me to capture it all. While they are living in their respective geographical corners of the country they can remember this time ALL together.

A little late is better than never! Happy Birthday to my 2 favorite girls Cele and McKenzie. Celebrations in Olympia for one, West Seattle for the other and I was lucky enough to be at both. There was even a visit from a friendly lion. As we leave August behind us and head towards September I salute my fellow LEOS- and say Happy Birthday- one more time!

More Burgers and Breast Cancer Fundraisers

We’re doing it again! Van’s Burger has let us do a second fundraiser to benefit the Breast Cancer 3Day and Susan G Komen!! Details below:

Van’s Burger is donating One Dollar from every burger sale during dinner on Wednesday August 19th, 2009 to support the Breast Cancer 3Day Walk. Donations will go to Breast Cancer research, education and treatment through the Susan G. Komen Foundation. All you have to do is drive to Van’s on Wednesday August 19th between 5 and 7pm, eat some burgers (their onion rings are amazing too!). 3Day walkers from team “Pretty in Pink” will be there, walking and answering questions about this important and amazing event!

What to Expect When You’re Expecting

I love working with couples who are expecting their first child. It is an opportunity to share their delight, enthusiasm and anticipation as they look to the new arrival. Yaprak and Josh have much to be excited about. As I watched the loving couple interact with each other (and her belly) I had to stop myself from saying too much about what they can expect. As the mother of two sons I am overwhelmed by the incredible love I feel for my children- and that love- amazingly enough- gets stronger every day. Instead of offering lots of advice to them- I’ll just say…Expect it to be wonderful. Expect it to be hard work. Expect to love him in a way that you have never experienced love. Expect that you will need to keep loving each other and supporting each other as you do now- and maybe more. If you think this is as good as it gets- just wait. It keeps getting better and better.

Baby Jacob

All babies are pretty cute- but there is nothing cuter than a naked newborn. One great thing about our Northwest heat wave is that we knew he wouldn’t catch a chill during his extended photo shoot. It was wonderful to have Jacob’s cousin Jasmin and Grandma Libby there, in addition to his mom and dad. I feel so lucky to be able to capture the connectedness of a family- and its multiple generations.

Point Defiance Zoo

I brought my little Canon point and shoot to Point Defiance Zoo with me last week. It was so fun reach into my pocket and grab it to capture those priceless moments during our visit. I couldn’t keep my eyes off of Ben and Jasmin during the “Tiger Talk”. The male Sumatran Tiger was beautiful but not as entertaining as my son putting the moves on Jasmin while they watched and listened. A few other fun shots from a wonderful day.

a great burger – a great cause

Thanks to everyone who made last month’s Van’s Burger fundraiser for the Breast Cancer 3Day- so successful and such a good time. Van’s owner, Erica, my friends, and family and some regular Van’s diners helped raise $379 in 2 hours. I walked continuously during the dinner hour, visiting with my wonderful supporters and shaking my pink pom poms at cars as they drove by. We had so much fun – we’re thinking about doing it again later this summer. I just want an excuse to eat another one of their amazing burgers. my dad

I have the distinct privilege of being both my father’s daughter and his official photographer. His next book (due out Spring of 2010) is a story about a young girl who travels with her family- a family of circus clowns. When my dad told me his idea for his next book jacket photo- I had my doubts- but as you can see he makes that red clown nose look good. So does Banjo- his dog.

father’s day (a bit early)

My Dad has always told me how lucky he was to have 2 daughters. I thought of him during this very special photo shoot for McKenzie and Finley’s Dad. Unlike my sister and I when we were that age, the girls got along beautifully, sat nicely for their portraits, and enjoyed the blooming clematis. We convinced Mom to jump into some of the shots so Dad could have a picture of all three of his girls together. He certainly is a lucky dad. Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads out there- especially (of course) my dad.

Baby Vida

It was all smiles and sunshine for Baby Vida during our morning shoot. Her attitude was positive throughout her outfit and location changes and she kept

that precious smile on her face for 90 consecutive minutes. We had so much fun – she even missed a nap- but you can see it didn’t darken her day at all.
